SELECTED PROJECT 2020
REMIX: discussing copyright and the Internet
PURPOSE
This project will foster a public conversation about copyright in Brazil, and the need for reform in order to attain a fair and balanced cultural ecosystem.
OBJECTIVE
To achieve a comprehensive body of copyright law in Brazil.

CONTEXT
Access to culture, knowledge, science and art is a right. A comprehensive reform of copyright regulation will promote broader access to content through the Internet. To achieve this, a discussion must take place on the need for legislation that meets human rights standards, especially among artists, influencers, entertainment producers, journalists and experts.
The discussion on copyright reform is polarized primarily between technology companies and entertainment companies (record companies, publishers), occurring without the participation of other relevant civil society actors.

Expected results benefitting the population:
– The creation of a network shaped by artists, influencers, entertainment producers and specialists in culture/knowledge that can impact public discourse.
– The development of new narratives about copyright and the Internet in Brazil.
– The preparation and implementation of a digital communication campaign to initiate and respond to the legislative reform process.
